A bit more about Petro Sep & their innovative technology…
Pervaporation
- Pervaporation theory has been known to the scientific world since the early 1900s
- In the 1960s, the American Oil Company attempted to apply the theory as a more efficient means to separate hydrocarbons in refining, but failed to achieve a commercially viable solution
- In 1986, Dr. Souriirajan (co-inventor of reverse osmosis & 3-time nominee for Nobel prize in Chemistry) founded the Industrial Membrane Research Institute (IMRI) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Ottawa
- In 1999, following 10 years of research at the IMRI, Fakir & his team membrane scientists of Petro Sep Membrane Technologies Inc. introduced a new type of commercially viable pervaporation membranes
- Over the subsequent 24+ years, Petro Sep’s hydrophilic, hydrophobic, & organophilic chemical membranes & engineering processes have been successfully introduced in 100+ industrial treatment and MSW processing facilities world-wide
- In addition to its ethical approach to ensuring no harm to the environment in its processes, the process is far less energy dependent (due in part to lower operating temperatures) than alternative treatment methods, and thus a very economical option
